Spring is such a beautiful time in the Northwest with plenty of opportunities to enjoy the outdoors and gorgeous natural scenery. Even with our rainy days, it is still great to escape the indoors and go outside. Here are some of the things you can expect!
Cherry blossoms! Spring in the NW is marked by the blooming of cherry trees! The delicate pink and white flowers create a stunning display and draw visitors from all over the region. It won't be long and we will see trees covered with an abundance of these pretty little flowers. Ferndale hosts a Cherry Blossom festival that is said to be great.
Hiking and outdoor activities! As the weather warms up, spring is the perfect time to explore the many hiking trails and outdoor attractions we have to offer. From the Olympic National Park to the San Juans to Chuckanut Drive and more, there are plenty of options for outdoor adventures.
Farmers markets! Spring also marks the beginning of Farmer's Market season, with many markets opening up in the area. Pike Place Market is well known for it's fabulous products and experience. This is a great opportunity to support local farmers and artisans while enjoying fresh produce, baked goods, and other treats.
My favorite flower; tulips! The Skagit Valley Tulip Festival takes place every April, featuring fields of colorful tulips and other spring flowers. There are many other events going on at the fields during this time as well.
Whale watching anyone! Spring is also a great time to go whale watching in the NW as whales migrate north from their breeding grounds in Mexico. The San Juan Islands are one of the best places in the world to go whale watching with several resident pods of Orca whales that can be seen. There are whale watching tours and charters available at other places along the coast.
Spring skiing! For those that love winter sports, spring is a great time to hit the slopes. Many ski resorts in the NW remain open through April and even into May, offering great ski and sledding conditions.
Overall, Spring in the NW is a beautiful and exciting time of year, with plenty of opportunities to enjoy the regions natural beauty and outdoor activities despite the rain! So go outside, breathe some cool fresh air and enjoy!
